GameTree ports PC-based content to HD television sets

GameTree has partnered with Intel to offer an on-demand gaming platform for HD TV. The platform – known as GameTree.tv – is expected to run on Intel CE media processor powered set-top boxes and other electronic devices.

“At TransGaming, we’re in the business of enabling existing games to operate on alternative operating systems,” explained TransGaming CEO Vikas Gupta. “Since Intel CE processors run on Intel architecture, it’s a fast and easy migration from the PC to the CE platform.”

According to Gupta, GameTree will offer a broad library of titles, including sports, action and adventure games. In addition, GameTree is expected to provide content developers with a software development kit to support the migration of legacy classics and development of new games based on Intel’s CE platform.

“[The platform] will help revolutionize the delivery and global consumption of video games and provide a turnkey monetization strategy for CE manufacturers and cable/satellite providers,” added Gupta.

It should be noted that Intel CE media processors offer a software framework known as “Widget Channel” to help streamline the development of various Internet applications. Indeed, broadcast networks such as CBS are working to expand their current gallery of TV widgets to help viewers find and connect to premium content.

“Navigation is the No. 1 challenge for today’s television viewers,” said George Schweitzer of CBS.

“Intel’s CE technology and our new TV Widget platform are designed to help people find the shows they want and discover new programs that are relevant to their interests. What’s more, the TV Widget gives us another platform to connect and interact with our audience.”
