Do you remember 1993? Dimly lit, smoked filled rooms and teeming mosh pits. Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins. And Doom.
Well, Doom is back, this time on the Zune HD – courtesy of a talented modder named Netrix (aka Glenn Anderson) and ZuneBoards.
“Doom is a first-person shooter released in 1993 by id Software. The shareware WAD (map pack) is included. If you have a registered or retail WAD, you can remove doom1.wad in data/Content and put your WAD in its place,” Netrix wrote in a ZuneBoard forum post.
“To replace a WAD that is already deployed to your Zune, you must first delete Doom from your Zune, then redeploy with the new WAD. You will not lose your save files by deleting Doom.”
According to Netrix, the full version of Doom (Ultimate Doom) as well as subsequent game sequels can be legitimately obtained via Steam.
“The WAD files should be installed with the game into your Steam directory, where they can be copied in with Doom for Zune HD,” he added.
