San Francisco, Calif. Bethesda has confirmed that it will release Broken Steel – the first Fallout 3 DLC for the PS3 – on Thursday, September 24th. Broken Steel is expected to be followed by the release of “Operation: Anchorage” and “The Pitt” on October 1st, while “Point Lookout” and “Mothership Zeta” are slated for October 8th.
Bethesda also announced a cross-platform Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC), which will debut on Tuesday, October 13th. According to Bethesda, the special edition will include Fallout 3 and all five DLCs.
The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions have been tagged with a $60 price point, while the Windows version is priced slightly lower at $50.
Meanwhile, Bethesda has released an update for the PS3 version of Fallout 3 that addresses a number of “ssues,” includes “some optimizations” and adds trophy support for the DLC.
As TG Daily previously reported, Fallout 3 DLC for the PS3 was delayed for months over content testing and additional trophy options.
“Unfortunately, the content is going to be releasing later than originally expected. Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game,” Bethesda producer Ashley Cheng wrote in a July Sony PSN blog post. “Our DLC expands on the original game tremendously — each DLC offering 4-6 hours of additional content — and is no trivial undertaking.”
Cheng also noted that the new DLCs supported trophies and featured “more” weapons, creatures, armor and outfits.
“[Trophies were] a big priority for us and one of the reasons for the extra time needed. In the end, we think it’s worth the effort to bring trophies to the DLC,” explained Cheng. “[The DLCs also offers] support for existing characters and saves. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the DLC, the content is accessible at anytime (once you leave Vault 101).”
