As we’ve reported before here on TGD, DC is trying to catch up with Marvel on the big and small screen, especially with so many superhero films and TV shows that will be coming up in the next two years. Now rumors have been flying The Rock may be taking on a legendary DC hero. (Give you a hint, he might be green…)
As Giant Freakin Robot reports, The Rock himself tweeted, “just had a big meeting w/ Warner Bros CEO re: @DCComics 2014 we will partner up and create the cool bad assery.” Then rumors started flying he could be playing the Green Lantern.
Now this may not be for a Lantern reboot, but instead this could be part of the plans for a Justice League movie down the road after Batman. The speculation about B V S keeps growing, although at this point it’s not clear if The Rock will be in B V S, or a Justice League flick near the end of the decade.
We haven’t looked up how the net and Twittersphere have reacted to this yet, but it’s safe to assume someone’s going to get their shorts in a knot about all this. The Rock’s not the greatest actor in the world, but does he need to be for this? And could he be any worse than Ben Affleck? And could he be up for another comic character entirely? Back in 2012, The Rock confirmed he was up to play Lobo, and tweeted it “could be fun.”
If meetings about “cool bad assery” are indeed going down right now, we should know what’s really happening soon, so stay tuned…
