So far, we’re not so sure about the upcoming show Mob City. We already have Boardwalk Empire, and Mob City looks pretty similar to it, and it features Ed Burns, one of the most wooden actors around. On the plus side, Frank Darabont created the show, and that goes a long way right there.
Also getting the show off to a strong start is the advance poster created by Drew Struzan. Struzan is one of the greatest poster artists of all time, having illustrated many Star Wars campaigns, Harry Potter, John Carpenter’s The Thing, The Goonies, and many, many more.
Struzan retired several years ago, which is really a tragic loss to movies, but Darabont has thankfully convinced him to still create a masterpiece here and there, including a poster for The Walking Dead. (One of Struzan’s last posters he created before he called it a day was for Darabont’s adaptation of The Mist.)
Struzan was recently the subject of a documentary, Drew: The Man Behind the Poster, and it’s always great to see him illustrating and creating. If Mob City doesn’t turn out well, at least we’ll have a hell of a poster.
