As a long time horror fan, I’m digging the fact that the genre has made a big comeback to TV. There used to be horror series and TV movies all the time back in the ‘70’s, and it’s nice to see it coming back round again.
Sleepy Hollow is one of several horror series that have been in the works for a while, and apparently according to the early reviews, it’s a winner. Vulture writes it “may be about a headless horseman, but it’s not brainless…it’s a time-travel story, a conspiracy thriller, a buddy-cop tale, a platonic-but-with sexual-tension love story, and sometimes a satire on modern attitudes, and it juggles these modes with sure hands.”
The AV Club feels “this will shake out as a supernatural procedural, much like Fringe,” and that the show is “admirably demented.” Cinema Blend also called it “anything but sleepy,” as well as “exciting, fun, and dark…” Not every review has been positive, but the good reviews make Sleepy Hollow feel promising.
So again, it’s nice to see horror back on TV, and it looks like Sleepy Hollow could succeed where efforts like Hemlock Grove have failed.
