Unplugging: Black Friday in the music world

With the holidays right in front of our faces, the music world has begun getting into the holiday spirit. Artists entice fans with box sets, Christmas releases, and tour dates.

 

To kick off the holiday season, musician E.D. Sedgwick will begin his three-week European tour over Thanksgiving. The tour will venture through Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland. American Hearts’ drummer Jess Matthews and bassist Kristina Buddenhagen will join E.D. Sedgwick on the stage. Dates for the tour start November 23rd and go through December 11th. E.D. Sedgwick plans to tour the

United States in spring of 2013.

Tuning into the Christmas spirit, musician Sufjan Stevens has released promotional videos for his Silver & Gold box set. The video series, titled “Friendship Slay Ride,” includes seven videos. Video titles include “Betwixt Two Furs,” “Monster Trucks,” and “Law Office.” All videos will be included in the box set, along with three

hours of music, an 80-page booklet, and other fun goodies. Watch the videos on mxdwn.com

Grunge musician Mark Lanegan is also getting into the Christmas spirit by releasing a Christmas-themed EP. Unlike most releases, Dark Mark Does Christmas will only be available for purchase on his current tour. Fans can stream the album online as well. Tracks on the EP include “O Holy Night,” “We Three Kings,” and “Coventry Carol.”

Metal-heads will have the opportunity to strike classic metal-rock gold this holiday. Black Sabbath will release a box set, Black Sabbath: The Vinyl Collection: 1970-1978 in the United Kingdom. The set will include all nine albums from this time period, along with other goodies including original tour programs from their

1970, 1975, 1976, and 1978 tours. Pre-orders for the box set are now available at the Universal UK store.”

Kanye West is set to end the 2012 holiday season with a three-night performance in New Jersey. Kanye will perform in Revel Ovation Hall in Atlantic City to a 5,500 capacity crowd. Performances will take place December 28 th, 29th, and 30th. Tickets go on sale next Friday, November 30.

With these new releases and tour dates, music fans will be opening their wallets this holiday season to get into the spirit.
