Mass Effect 3 Leviathan DLC goes live on August 28

BioWare has confirmed that its latest single-player DLC for Mass Effect 3 will go live on August 28 for the Xbox 360, Windows PC and PlayStation 3.

According to the game studio, the Leviathan DLC “expands upon the events of Mass Effect 3, with gripping and emotional storytelling, compelling new characters, and powerful weapons and upgrades.”

Although BioWare has understandably kept plot details close to its chest, IGN recently revealed the stalwart Shepard joins Admiral Hackett’s hunt for the Leviathan following the murder of a scientist who was tracking the enigmatic entity. Reaper indoctrination is initially blamed for the killing, yet Team Shepard believes other forces may well be responsible for the rather suspicious atrocity.

In related news, Fernando Melo, director of online development at BioWare, told IGN that downloadable (paid) content was “really safe, from a risk perspective.”

“Contrary to what you might hear on the Internet fans do want more content. They tend to say, ‘I want it now.’ The problem with day one content and the challenge around it is that the right answer for now is different for every player. There is no single right time, there is no single now. It’s subjective, and it’s unique to every player,” he explained.

“[Basically], you’re making it available on their time. They choose when to pick that up. It’s not based on us. It’s not based on some first-party release schedule. It’s there, if they want it they can pick it up day one. If they don’t, they can wait until they’ve finished their game.”
