The first in what will be a series of ‘The Avengers’ video games is called Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth.
The Avengers is proving to be a monumentally strong brand. The theatrical film has broken all kinds of box office records and continues to be the embodiment of comic book fandom all throughout the country.
So it is no surprise that a video game is being rushed out the door. Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth will be available for the Xbox 360 Kinect as well as, yes, the brand new Wii U, in the fall.
The game will of course feature a wide variety of Marvel comic book icons including Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, and Thor. However, it will not be a direct video game adaptation of the movie that’s sweeping America right now.
Instead, it will be “inspired by iconic Marvel comic artwork and the Secret Invasion storyline.” This is just the beginning of what will be an entire video game franchise based on The Avengers.
The Avengers is so big, it doesn’t have an official video game tie-in. However, longtime Marvel partner Sega will no longer be the publisher in charge of marketing and distributing the video game versions of its multi million-dollar grossing flicks.
Instead, Disney Interactive will pick up the task. Sega is believed to not have lived up to Marvel’s expectations.
No specific release date has been announced for Battle for Earth.
