The denizens of Silicon Valley are majorly stoked about the upcoming indie Steve Jobs biopic.
We already know that Ashton Kutscher is playing Jobs, but who will be taking on the role of Steve Wozniak? Well, it probably won’t be Joey Slotnick, who did a good job of portraying the inimitable Woz in Pirates of Silicon Valley back in 1999.
And we can obviously rule out the possibility of Woz playing himself, although one can still hope for a major cameo appearance when the film hits theaters in the fourth quarter of 2012.
But for now, The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Joshua Michael Stern, who previously helmed Swing Vote, is currently in talks with Josh Gad, the star of the Broadway musical Book of Mormon, to play Woz.
Production of Jobs is expected to kick off in May, when Kutcher takes some time off from Two and a Half Men. The project is being backed financially by Mark Hulme, who is also producing the film.
Steve Wozniak is often considered the engineering genius behind Apple’s early products such as the Apple 1 and II. He left in 1985 and currently serves as the chief scientist at Fusion-IO.
Still, Wozniak says he open to returning to a more active role at his former company. ”There’s just an awful lot I know about Apple products and competing products that has some relevance, some meaning,” he said last year. “They’re my own feelings, though.”
