The most anticipated genre movie right now is probably The Avengers, which will undoubtedly be a huge success when it hits theaters on May 4.
But there’s also no question the geeks are going to be out in full force when the first installment of the Hobbit goes live on December 14.
Now the news has hit that up to ten minutes of the film will be shown at the CinemaCon convention in Vegas on the 24th. At CinemaCon, all of the major studios are showing footage from their upcoming films, but the geek elite should definitely be paying attention to the reports on how the Hobbit looks, especially considering it’s going to be shown in 3D.
As the Hollywood Reporter tells us, the film is also being shown at a faster frame rate, 48 frames a second, which Peter Jackson, James Cameron and FX wizard Douglas Trumbull all are hoping the industry will adopt for future films.
Why 48 frames instead of the usual 24? Well, according to advocates like Cameron, it makes digital 3D look infinitely better. Cameron told the Reporter he should be making the next Avatar movies at higher frame rates, and that you get “enhanced sense of detail,” and “enhanced clarity” at 48 frames a second.
No matter how fast the frames are flying by, many of us are definitely looking forward to this December, when Jackson travels back to Middle Earth with the first installment of The Hobbit.
We’ll also be watching for the reaction to the footage once it screens this Tuesday, not to mention the Reporter also tells us there should be a trailer for the Hobbit ready for July.
The L.A. Times also tells us that at CinemaCon, footage from The Life of Pi, Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, and Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful, will be screened as well.
