Marvel’s latest Avengers trailer managed to rack up over 13.7 million views during the first 24 hours of its debut.
The trailer hit iTunes first, where it set a new record for the most viewed clip on Apple’s popular platform. Of course, the first trailer for the long-awaited film was pretty damn nice, but this one is even more impressive.
Although movie details are still scarce, it seems as if we can infer that The Avengers opens – in medias res – with the world already at war with mysterious alien invaders. However, we still can’t tell if the aliens are the Skrull, the Kree, or an unnamed third race. Personally, this is just fine with me, as I don’t mind finding out who they are when the movie hits the theaters.
Of course, we do know that all is not well among the disparate Avengers. Yes, they do manage to hold it together for a while (to a certain extent), but as Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner warns: “We’re not a team. We’re a time bomb.”
Ouch.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with The Avengers, the current adaptation is directed by Joss Whedon and based on a story co-written by Zak Penn and Whedon. The movie depicts the unification of The Avengers, the world’s greatest Super Heroes, who assemble when Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) join S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to protect the world from the dangerous and powerful villain, Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
Marvel’s The Avengers hits theaters on May 4, 2012.
