While some feel the superhero movie is at its peak, Daredevil’s proven that comics could have a good life through cable, regular television and streaming. Still, there’s plenty of heroes coming to the big screen, and there’s now a new spin-off in the works for the never ending X-Men, The New Mutants.
Variety reports that Josh Boone, who directed The Fault in Our Stars, and who is also slated to helm the long awaited big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. As we know by now, X-Men Apocalypse will be the next, and possibly last, X-Men film in the Bryan Singer universe, and there will also be another Wolverine movie, which will probably be Hugh Jackman’s last one as well.
Deadline tells us that Boone will helm The Vampire Chronicles, a reboot of the Anne Rice classic Interview With the Vampire, then The Stand should be next, followed by New Mutants, which should come in after X-Men Apocalypse and Deadpool next year. (A Gambit movie is in the works as well.)
X-Men was a big step forward for comic movies, and it’s great to see the franchise still going strong. We’ll definitely have some separation anxiety when Singer and Jackman finally leave and the franchise will be in new hands, but we’re certainly hoping for the best.
