Guardians of the Galaxy was the big surprise hit of last year, and not only are there now big expectations for a sequel, but there’s big expectations the follow up soundtrack album as well.
The soundtrack for Guardians was major icing on the cake for the movie, and it was also released on a mix tape cassette. (Believe it or not, cassette tapes are making a big comeback right now.)
James Gunn, director of Guardians, told the Hollywood Reporter, “So many people loved [the soundtrack, Awesome Mix, Vol. 1], and we went platinum,” which is a major feat in today’s music business. But Gunn doesn’t feel pressure about following up the movie.
“We had our hands tied behind our back on the first one by having to introduce all those characters, so it seems like doing the second movie is actually easier,” and he promised, “The soundtrack in the second one is better. I feel like it’s better, so I’m excited about it.”
The second Guardians of the Galaxy movie is currently in the works for a May 2017 release.
