There’s been so much in the press and in the geek-o-sphere about the third Ghostbusters movie, which will have an all-female team of apparition hunters, except now it looks like the movie is indeed going forward. There’s been a flood of rumors recently on the net, thanks to the Sony hacking, but now it can be confirmed that the cast of the new Ghostbusters is going to be…
Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, who we all know from Bridesmaids, along with Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones from SNL.
Paul Feig, who directed Bridesmaids, is going to helm the third Ghostbusters, and we guess they’re starting over with the script, because Deadline reports that Katie Dippold, who co-wrote The Heat, is currently at work, penning the next draft. We assume they’ll keep Dan Aykroyd’s basic concepts and all that, and we’re also assuming Danny will at least make a token appearance.
Deadline tells us Sony is hoping to have the next Ghostbusters shooting this year. So can an all female Ghostbusters revive one of the most beloved geek franchises of all time? We’ll see, and like the revival of Star Wars, we’re certainly keeping our fingers crossed.
As this story was being finalized, it was announced that the new Ghostbusters also has an official release date, July 22, 2016.
