Former Doctor Who star plays a droid in the acclaimed CGI serial.
If you caught the new episode of Clone Wars that aired this weekend, then you may have heard a familiar voice in one of the new characters.
In episode 7, Test of Strength we’re introduced to a troop of Jedi Padawans from the Academy and a droid named Huyang. Huyang, who even bears a vague resemblance to Tennant, is the Order’s Sabermaster, having been assigned for many generations to the task of storing, organizing, building, and keeping records on all of the Academy’s lightsabers.
Cartoon network has released this promotional clip from the episode, showcasing Tennant’s performance:
There isn’t too much to say about the performance other than that he nails it. Tennant has shown himself to be a versitile talent since his popularization on Doctor Who. He can clearly do a lot more than the quirky stranger. The Clone Wars show runners agree:
“When I heard the Doctor himself, David Tennant, was a fan of Star Wars I knew I had to find a way to get in contact with him to see if he would perform on Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” said Supervising Director Dave Filoni in a press release.“… I thought David was perfect for the part and he did not disappoint. He delivered a performance which impressed even the Master himself, George Lucas.”
The character will appear in next week’s episode – a continuation of this week’s – as well. No word if we’ll see the character again after that.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is currently airing on Saturday mornings on Cartoon Network.
