Gravel is an ongoing comic series which follows the story of “combat magician” Sgt. Major William Gravel, as he fights the forces of evil and the occult.
A film adaptation is currently being written by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell for Legendary Pictures, who recently worked together on the Liam Neeson lead Unknown.
Visual effects veteran – but first time director – Tim Miller will helm the feature, while Ellis himself is onboard as the executive producer.
With Ellis being allowed to take such an active role in the production, we can expect the adaptation to well adapt the source material.
Tim Miller’s CG animation studio, Blur, is known for outstanding full-CG film sequences, especially the creation of title sequences for genre films including the 2001 Planet of the apes and the first two X-Men films.
This background likely means that we’ll be seeing quite a bit of great CG work in the film, though it is mostly a live-action production.
No actors are yet attached to the project, and no synopsis has yet been released, so we have no idea yet which issue(s) of Gravel are making it into the film.
No production or release dates are yet set for Gravel.
