A German company took out an injunction against Qualcomm for using the term “Smartbook”.
Smartbook AG successfully obtained a preliminary injunction in a Cologne court against Qualcomm preventing the American firm from using Smartbook in Germany or links that use the word Smartbook.
If the court order is breached, Qualcomm faces fines of 250,000 Euro for each breach.
Dirk Pick, a director of Smartbook AG said that Internet sites such as Qualcomm and others like www.hellosmartbook.com infringed his company’s trademark.
He said he considered Qualcomm had made a serious attack on the Smartbook brand and that has forced Smartbook AG to take defensive measures. “We will protect our brand,” he said.
