In June 2017, Global Action Plan, a not-for-profit organization based in the United Kingdom, ran the UK’s first ever National Clean Air Day, inspiring people throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland,to take action on air pollution.
National Clean Air Day was coordinated by the Global Action Plan in partnership with Birmingham City Council, Derby City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester, Leeds City Council, Nottingham City Council and Southampton City Council, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, with the aim of engaging the public with the health impacts of air pollution and what they can do to protect their health.
This year Clean Air Day 2018 will take place June 21, 2018 and is expected to reach and inspire a global audience of millions.
Many companies strive to develop innovative technologies to preserve our planet’s natural resources and provide a safe alternative to chemicals that can harm every form of life on Earth.
Here are seven innovative earth-friendly technologies to celebrate on Clean Air Day.
Beyond by Aerus
This extraordinary family of products is proven to eliminate contaminants in the air and on surfaces, ultimately destroying airborne and surface viruses, mold, fungus, volatile organic compounds, and bacteria such as MRSA, E-coli and Staph. Combining world-class, NASA-inspired technologies with innovative design, Beyond by Aerus establishes healthy living environments through a new standard of environmental quality for every indoor space. Featuring ActivePure Certified Space Technology, Beyond by Aerus products help create a cleaner, healthier and more comfortable living environment at home, at work, and beyond.
ActivePure Technology found in Beyond by Aerus products help eliminate indoor air quality risks by reducing air pollutants, VOCs (chemical odors), cigarette smoke, dust, pollen, mold, odor-causing bacteria and odors caused by pets and cooking. It is particularly helpful for those who suffer from allergies, asthma, COPD and other respiratory illnesses. Also, those with compromised immune systems (such as premature babies, the elderly, and those suffering from diseases) can benefit greatly from cleaner air in the home.
From state-of-the-art floor care systems to air and water purification systems and beyond, Aerus has created clean, safe and healthy indoor environments for over 50 million businesses and homes worldwide. Those who suffer from asthma or allergies, new parents or caregivers, pet lovers or anyone devoted to living a healthier life can benefit from the cleansing and purifying components of ActivePure Technology.
Phoenix Composting Toilet
The Phoenix CompostingToilet, available in models for commercial, residential and even campsite options, uses an aerobic composting system that turns human waste into mulch. No flushing necessary, this toilet system saves thousands of gallons of water and leaves no odor behind. Annual clean-out of the mulch storage unit provides nutrient-rich mulch to use in an effort to promote plant or garden growth.
Pavement Filtration for Onsite Rainwater Management
Used in conjunction with concrete or other paving materials to create driveways, sidewalks, parking lots or streets that provide permeability and filtration of rainwater, the d-Rain Joint system is a drainage channel used to collect and convey water along its path. The potential is there to even eliminate storm-water systems and avoid pollution hazards to urban ecosystems.
Hazel Technologies
30% of harvested produce is never even consumed, wasting resources, energy, water and money. With a new product by Hazel Technologies, agricultural waste can be reduced by allowing retail operations to control the freshness of the produce offered. FruitBrite is a pod that can extend the shelf-life of produce by 20-40% when used in trucks or warehouses storing the food before its brought to stores and consumers.
HYDRAO Shower Head
Ever wonder how much water you’re using in the shower? The HYDRAO shower head will tell you in real-time. The shower head lights up the water spray with different colors signaling the amount of water used. The lights alert the user to ultimately save water and energy from heating it.
Innova EV
Most college students don’t bother with owning a car on campus as the costs outweigh the convenience and use. Innova EV provides a 100% electric car, The Dash, to jet students around campus and surrounding towns. Currently used at four pilot universities, the company is seeking to expand the service to universities and colleges across the nation.
Residential Wind Generator
It’s becoming more and more cost-effective to install a wind turbine in a backyard (with necessary permits and approvals, of course). While product prices vary, private wind energy is another step toward energy efficiency and independence.
