Consumers will be able to take their computing to the next dimension without the need for glasses for the first time, later this month.
That is when Toshiba’s flagship glasses-free 3D computer will hit the market. The Qosmio F755 3D is set to be the first laptop to offer the advanced imaging technology.
The technology, also known as autostereoscopic 3D, works by embedding a whole panel of tiny mirrors within the display to create the effect of an image that has depth even though it’s still just a flat screen.
It has already been used in 3D digital photo frames and Nintendo’s 3DS handheld gaming system but has failed to strike a chord with most of the general consumers.
What’s exciting about Toshiba’s entry into the nascent market is the display size. The F755 3D has a 15.6-inch screen, far beyond any other glasses-free 3D product in the US today.
What it means for consumers is the ability to play 3D games, watch 3D movies, and converting existing 2D content into 3D with the push of a button.

The unique capabilities of the laptop’s 3D display make enjoying 3D content both convenient and hassle-free. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before,” said Toshiba VP Carl Pinto in a statement.
Beyond the 3D technology, the F755 3D is by all accounts a top-of-the-line PC. It has an Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia Geforce 540M graphics, and a 750 GB hard drive as the standard spec list. It also comes with a rewritable Blu-ray Disc drive and HDMI port, making it easy to export 3D content as well.
Toshiba says the device will be available in “mid-August” at select e-tailers and on Toshibadirect.com, with a price of $1699.99.
