The long-awaited official trailer has finally been released for Green Lantern: The Animated Series.
A month or so ago, we had some really terrible footage show up on the internets, showing a teaser for the new CGI Green Lantern series. Cartoon Network today has finally released a nice-looking bit of footage, though in the form of a trailer this time.
The video came with this synopsis:
The show will be arcs, and Hal Jordan will be the main character. Other characters that have been confirmed to be included are Kilowog, the Guardians of the Universe, Carol Ferris, Salaak, Sayd, Saint Walker, and Zilius Zox. The main antagonists of the show will be the Red Lantern Corps, led by the villain Atrocitus, and the Manhunters. It will not be an origin story. The first season of the show will have 26 episodes, thirteen of which have already been planned, and five of which have already been recorded.
It makes sense that they would wait until the release of the Green Lantern film to hype this further, and in some parts of the country, audiences got to see this trailer in the theaters.
Bruce Timm is producing the series, which is lucky because he was always the strong backbone of the DC animated stories. Timm had his hand in almost every DC animated series, including Batman: Beyond and The Justice League.
Rumor is that this is just the beginning of a big push to get lots of DC Comics properties back on television. For my part, I know that I’ll be pretty happy if we can get the DC Animated universe up and running again. In fact, I’ve always found the writing of the animated universe much better than the comicbooks themselves.
Of course, it’s surely intended to go along with the plans for an over-all DC rehash which will be hitting the comicbooks this fall in the form of a full renumbering of all lines. This all, on top of the movies, represents some series effort on DC’s part to reel in new audiences.
Will all this effort turn out to be a siren song or a swan song?
Green Lantern: The Animated Series will come to WB owned Cartoon Network this fall.
