Smartphone manufacturer HTC has confirmed it is working with the new version of Windows Phone.
The updated software, known as Windows Phone 7.5 or Mango, was introduced yesterday and made available for developers. HTC, despite gaining most of its fame from its line of Android phones, is one of the first to independently comment on its interest in Mango.
In an interview with Reuters, HTC CEO Peter Chou said, “We have some Windows Mango phones. We are very committed to Windows phone products.”
Before the launch of Android in 2008, HTC was a relatively obscure company that no one in the US knew by name. But then it became the manufacturer of the very first Android device, the T-Mobile G1, and it instantly became a strong contender in the mobile space.
It has also formed strong relationships with other companies, including Microsoft. It was a vocal supporter of the previous Windows Mobile platform, becoming one of the last companies to invest in the platform.
With its strong position in the market, HTC has said it expects revenue to double this quarter, something it has achieved in previous quarters with ease.
Windows Phone Mango is expected to roll out to consumers some time this fall, though Microsoft is unwilling to provide a more specific launch target. Chou likewise would not comment on when to expect the first Mango-powered HTC phones.
