A real trailer for Conan the Barbarian is finally out, and it does a good job of highlighting the film’s strong suits.
Last month we got a crappy, smokey teaser, which really showed us nothing about what this new film is going to be. Today, we’ve got a real trailer, and it makes certain that we all understand where this remake is headed: down the path of righteous fight scenes and top-notch effects.
Conan the Barbarian, originally a film for Arnold Schwarzenegger goes like this: “A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.”
Which, you know, is the plot of Conan the Barbarian, so that’s great, but the movie is obviously not about the plot. It’s about watching Ronon the Barbarian, sorry, Drogo the Barbarian, oh excuse me, Conan the Barbarian kick asses and take names.
The choreography reminds me of The Scorpion King, and the effects are reminiscent of Hidalgo; not a bad action flick heritage.
It certainly looks more entertaining than the original Ahnold picture, but with the dated effects and pacing of that film, it’s tough to really get into it anyway.
At first, I wasn’t sure if remaking Conan was a great idea, but now that I’ve finally gotten a good look at it, I’ve changed my mind. This was a great idea.
