Redbox rental kiosks around the country will soon be stocking video games.
Some 21,000 of the 25,000 installed Redbox stations around the country will be receiving Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 games beginning June 17, allowing users to rent games for $2 per day.
That’s in addition to the kiosks’ existing collection of DVD and Blu-ray Disc movies, which rent for $1 a day and $1.50 a day, respectively.
Redbox has been experimenting with game rentals but to date has limited it to only a select number of locations. The expansion in June will be a huge explosion for the service and a confirmation that the test kiosks worked.
“Redbox will make discovering the latest games as easy as a trip to the local grocery, convenience or drug store,” said Redbox VP Joel Resnik in a statement.
One thing from the pilot program has been pulled – the 21,000 kiosks will not stock DS games, which were included in the test locations.
Redbox is found in grocery stores, fast food restaurants, pharmacies, and airports, offering a low-cost, convenient way to rent movies for those who still prefer to have a physical disc.
