Famed sci-fi director Ridley Scott is reportedly working on a television adaption of the novel Labyrinth, written by Kate Mosse in 2005.
According to Variety, Scott – of Alien, Blade Runner and Prometheus fame – will produce a four-hour mini-series based on a script submitted by Primeval co-creator Adrian Hodges.
The novel tells two stories, depicting the discoveries of a modern archaeologist and the tale of a young woman who survived both the Crusades and Cathar massacres in France.
“[This] story affords us the opportunity to create exciting drama that will thrill and delight the book’s readers worldwide and the viewers who’ll be discovering it for the first time,” Scott explained.
“We look forward to this new chapter in the long-standing relationship between Tandem and Scott Free, and also to bringing the quality that has become the hallmark of our joint efforts with Tandem to yet another piece of event television.”
No word on how closely Scott and Hodges plan to follow the novel, but based on Scott’s track record, we can assume the adaption will likely do the book justice, while exposing Labyrinth to a new audience.
