After being put on hiatus for four month, Mozilla announced that it will put the latest version of Firefox up for download next Tuesday.
The company says the file will be available on Mozilla.com at 10:00 AM Eastern Time on March 22, making it one week after the other high-profile browser launch, Internet Explorer 9.
Firefox 4 had initially been planned to be available in November, but Mozilla pushed it back to add more time to the beta testing phase.
The first Firefox 4 beta went live last July, and ended up being the first of 12 beta releases before Mozilla was happy enough to push out the final version.
Yesterday, Mozilla director Damon Sicore wrote in an official forum, “Today’s triage session concluded with all systems go for a Firefox 4 launch on March 22.”
After being delayed in November, Mozilla promised to make the new browser available no later than March. “At times, many thought we, I, us, were crazy, or too aggressive … but in the end, we were able to get it done,” said the company’s CEO Gary Kovacs.
It’s not time to rest on any laurels, though. According to several online reports, Mozill has already begun working on Firefox 5.
