Windows Phone 7 is quickly gaining momentum, with Nokia selecting the rapidly-evolving platform for its flagship mobile OS and analytics firms recording a 66% increase in WP7 app starts over recent weeks. So it comes as little surprise that Acer now wants a piece of Microsoft’s potentially lucrative WP7 pie.
According to Pocket-Lint, Acer plans to debut a Windows Phone 7 smartphone in either September or October of this year.
The reported launch date is expected to coincide with a major WP7 update codenamed Mango.
The update will offer Twitter integration directly into the People hub, SkyDrive syncing of Office documents, true multitasking for third-party apps and a Web browser based on IE9.
Although it is too early to tell if WP7 is capable of seriously challenging Apple, Android or RIM, it is abundantly clear that Microsoft has finally managed to regain at least some of its mobile mojo.
