Samsung’s Galaxy S brand will take its next step in a matter of weeks, as a 4G version of its Vibrant phone for T-Mobile has just been announced for release later this month.
T-Mobile and Samsung made it official by announcing the phone today. However, it won’t be called the Vibrant 4G as originally expected. The new device will be called the Galaxy S 4G.
All of the features from the Vibrant will be carried over, including a 1 GHz Cortex-A8 processor, a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, 5-megapixel camera, and Android version 2.2.
There will also be a few new features, including a front-facing one-megapixel camera for video chats, as well as a bigger 1650 mAh battery. And, of course, it has technology to run T-Mobile’s new 4G HSPA+ network.
“The Galaxy S 4G is going to be the fastest super-phone running on America’s largest 4G network,” said T-Mobile director of product management Randy Meyerson in a statement.
The Galaxy S line has become highly successful for Samsung. The company has sold millions of its high-end Android phones over the last several months, but they’ve all been equipped with 3G data connections. This will be the first to go to the next level, and it chose T-Mobile for that honor.
Samsung plans to introduce a new slate of Galaxy S devices later this month, where it’s expected to introduce highly powerful dual-core mobile processors in its phones, offering realistic video games and video content.
No word yet on the exact date of the Galaxy S 4G’s launch, but expect it to start rolling into T-Mobile stores soon.
