W00t, the Optimus 3D is indeed real! Yes, LG confirmed the existence of the “world’s first” fully-functioning 3D smartphone just hours after images of the enigmatic device hit the ‘Net.
“The Optimus 3D addresses the lack of 3D content issue – one of the biggest problems facing the 3D market – with a complete platform for a one-of-a-kind experience on a mobile device,” LG explained in an official statement.
Although LG has yet to release a detailed spec list, the company did state that the device would feature a dual-lens camera for 3D recording, a glasses-free LCD panel for 3D viewing and “diverse connectivity options” such as HDMI and DLNA for 3D content sharing.
No word on the processor, but it is probably safe to speculate that the Optimus 3D will be powered by a 3D variant of Nvidia’s dual-core Tegra 2 chip.
As TG Daily previously reported, Nvidia is planning to ship a 3D enabled Tegra 2 processor later this year.
According to slides obtained by TechEye, the chip is based on an ARM Dual Cortex A9 revved to a sweet 1.2 GHz – offering 5520 MIPS (million instructions per second) of raw power.
It is also worth noting that LG’s flagship Optimus 2X smartphone boasts a Tegra 2 chip, which facilitates faster, smoother web browsing, high-quality gaming and true multitasking without annoying lag or drag.
