Almost anyone who prefers sustainable seafood is aware of the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Pocket Guides, which give shoppers the information-at-a-glance to make ocean-friendly seafood choices.
Now, the Aquarium’s increasingly popular iPhone app version of this guide has been updated, with a new feature: Project FishMap.
This aspect of the app allows users to input restaurants and markets where they have found sustainable seafood, letting other users know where to look when seeking the same.
Sheila Bowman, senior outreach coordinator for Seafood WATCH, said, in a statement:
“We wanted to create a resource that would demonstrate that sustainable seafood can be found no matter where you live. We know that users of our iPhone app are already making sustainable seafood purchases, and we wanted to enlist their help.”
Nearly one million locations have already been entered into this FishMap, offering helpful info when shopping or dining.
And should you discover a market or restaurant not yet noted in the database, you can update it with your favorite ocean-friendly seafood destination, thereby earning such badges of honor as “Sushi Master,” and, when you patronize businesses, “Patron. ”
