A teenager is in jail after he decided to bring down the website powering mega popular game Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Publisher Activision reached out to police when they noticed suspicious activity on their servers in September. It was traced to the United Kingdom.
The young hacker somehow managed to implant the program “Phenom Booster” on the Call of Duty site, which made it inaccessible for many players. It was authorities in Manchester who managed to find the 17-year-old troublemaker.
He has been charged with violating the Computer Misuse Act. Activision will most definitely press charges, since Call of Duty is its most successful franchise and one of the most important series in the entire video game industry.
The suspect’s name was not released, because he is a minor. He’s not even old enough to have his name known, and yet he can bring a multi million-dollar publisher to its knees.
