Google and Samsung are reportedly prepping a next-gen Nexus smartphone for a November 8th launch in New York City.
The second iteration of the popular device will supposedly ship with Android Gingerbread on various carriers.
“I have spoke with multiple, trusted sources familiar with the project who have shared the same story with me. They wish to remain anonymous,” claimed Taylor Wimberly of AndroidAndMe.
“…Imagine what would happen if Samsung focused on only the hardware and let Google takeover the software duties. That is exactly what you will get with the Nexus Two.”
Unsurprisingly, Wimberly acknowledged that reports of a Nexus Two device would be met with a healthy dose of skepticism from reporters, analysts and fanbois.
“I’m totally OK if you don’t believe this report, but do yourself a favor and wait two weeks to see what happens.
“[Still], if you enjoy a custom Android skin, then go right ahead. This new Samsung phone might not blow your socks off, but you will at least want to hear their pitch before making your next purchasing decision,” he added.
Of course, we at TG Daily are far from certain that Samsung will be unveiling an officially branded, Google “Nexus Two” anytime soon.
Yes, Samsung may debut a next-gen Android phone running Gingerbread. And yes, it will probably totally rock, as much, if not more than a Nexus Two would have.
But remember, Google has made it quite clear on numerous occasions that the Nexus One already fulfilled its purpose, which was to propel the Android platform forward.
Of course, anything is possible, but a full-on Nexus resurrection seems quite unlikely.
