Warner Bros just got finished saying it was worried about creating less than stellar 3D conversions to damage the Harry Potter franchise, when it was confirmed that it’ll be going back to films that never had any intention of being in 3D and converting them anyway.
Yes, after Warner Bros said it was concerned about creating a less-than-stellar 3D conversion of the next theatrical Harry Potter release, it seems the studio has no qualms about going back to movies that were already released and giving them the 3D makeover.
There’s now speculation that Warner is looking back at Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, for potential conversion to a Blu-ray 3D release.
And they might even get re-released in theaters specifically for 3D audiences.
This comes after Warner had to cancel the 3D version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, because the completed conversion didn’t look up to snuff and they didn’t have time to change it without pushing back the theatrical debut.
But the scuttlebutt is that it’s very likely to see the two aforementioned titles come to Blu-ray 3D, even though they were no filmed in 3D and never screened in 3D theaters. That would be a first for a BD3D release.
So much for Warner Bros worrying about over-commercializing the Harry Potter series…
