Apple has introduced an app that allows users to track down their lost or stolen iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches.
Find My iPhone reportedly operates by locating Apple mobile devices via their GPS or wireless chipsets.
Although the app is free, it is linked to an $99 annual MobileMe subscription.
It should be noted that Find My iPhone is the app version of a similar browser-based service Apple currently offers to existing MobileMe subscribers.
“The app…can be used from a different Apple mobile device when you lose yours. It produces a map with the exact location of the lost or stolen iPhone and you can lock it remotely with a passcode,” explained PC World’s Daniel Ionescu.
“You can also wipe the missing iPhone remotely, or display a message (with sound) on the device’s screen with information on how to return it.”
