Tired of endless Windows security updates but can’t afford a Mac? Well, Google Chrome may be the operating system for you.
According to NetWork World, Google’s upcoming Chrome OS for netbooks will feature a plethora of “integrated security technologies” designed to protect users from nefarious malware and other malicious threats.
“All of the Google Netbook products will ship with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) installed for security in key storage and multi-factor authentication in the future, as well as a ‘trusted bootpath,” writes Ellen Messmer of Network World.
Messmer added that Google has defined Chrome as a “hardened” OS, with auto-updating capabilities and “sandbox” options that are designed to “reduce exposure” to unknown or unsafe websites.
Finally, Messmer noted that Google has confirmed plans to release a consumer version of the OS in 2010, with a business version boasting “more management muscle” expected in 2010.
