Tokyo Game Show confirmed as a four-day event

The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA), the group responsible for planning the largest video game trade show in the Eastern half of the globe, has announced that the 2010 Tokyo Game Show will be a four-day event, putting off prior concerns that it might be scaled back to three days.

At the end of last year’s TGS, the CESA tentatively scheduled the 2010 event to span from September 16 to September 19, but said it could be modified to start on September 17.

In 2009, TGS attendance was down from 2008’s record attendance. About 10,000 fewer people were there during the four days, which was split between two days for only business attendees and two days where the doors were open to the public.

Last year saw a 2% decline in video game software sales in Japan, but economists over there are bullish for the remaining 10 months of 2010. The fact that CESA did decide to go for the four-day schedule speaks to the positive outlook for the way the year will round out.

This year’s show will mark the 20th anniversary of TGS.
