According to Web analytics firm Omniture, the mobile version of NBC’s Winter Olympics Web site (including iPhone and iPod App views) has reached a staggering 58.2 million page views, a growth of over two-thirds compared to the same statistic for 2008’s Beijing games.
It is only 11 days into the Winter Olympics, but that 58.2 million number already dwarfs the 34.7 million views recorded on the 2008 Olympics mobile site during its entire 17-day span. Before the opening ceremony even began on February 12, more than one million hits had already been recorded. That one-day total alone eclipsed the number of mobile Web site views during the entire 2006 winter competition.
Omniture also noted that more than a third of unique viewers had been back to the site more than five times, 67% view it while at home (only 34% while on-the-go), and more than half of the people who have visited say it makes them feel more connected to the Olympics.
Another interesting statistic is the growth in mobile video. More than 1.4 million Olympic videos have been streamed from NBC’s mobile site. That’s a 400%+ growth over the 2008 games
