Microvision showcases FPS projector-controller
Microvision showcased a weapon-styled projection game controller at Intel’s Extreme Masters PC tournament. According to Microvision spokesperson Ian Brown, the controller allows hardcore gamers to unshackle themselves from stationary positions and engage in a realistic virtual combat experience with an immersive 360-degree feel.??
Activision announces Transformers: War for Cybertron
Activision confirmed that High Moon Studios is developing Transformers: War for Cybertron. Company spokesperson Rob Kostich explained that the game takes players to the Transformer home world for a “new look” into the epic civil war which spawned one of the most brutal sci-fi rivalries of all time.
Bioware announces Mass Effect 2 lineup
Bioware announced an all-star lineup of voice actors for its upcoming Mass Effect 2 title. The game will feature Martin Sheen, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Seth Green, Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Baldwin, Keith David, Michael Dorn, Tricia Helfer, Michael Hogan and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Atari confirms corporate reshuffle
Jeff Lapin has been appointed the new CEO of Atari SA. The former COO replaced David Gardner, who agreed to step down while retaining his Director functions. As CEO, Lapin will run the business from Los Angeles and lead a reshuffled Executive Committee composed of Jim Wilson (CEO of Atari Inc.), John Needham (CEO of Cryptic Studios Inc.), Fabrice Hamaide (CFO of the Group) and Alexandra Fichelson (General Secretary).
Pachter: Video games are not recession proof
Michael Pachter conceded that a number of industry analysts were mistakenly “lulled” into believing the video game software market was recession-proof.
2K Games announces Spec Ops: The Line
2K Games confirmed that Spec Ops: The Line is currently in development at YAGER for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PC platforms. The game has been described as a provocative third-person modern military shooter that places players in “unspeakable” situations where unimaginable choices affecting human life must be made.
Rage! Rage! Zenimax grabs id software’s shooter
The parent company of Bethesda Software said it will be the publisher of RAGE, a future shooter under development by id Software. Bethesda Softworks, another subsidiary of ZeniMax Media, will be the de facto publisher and Electronic Arts won’t be involved in either sales of marketing of RAGE.
Games sales fall
US sales fell 7.6 percent for the month, says NPD, down to $2.7 billion. This is despite the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which sold six million copies – a quarter of all games sales for the month.
