Google may not be evil in its founders’ eyes, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
And the not-so-beautiful Peoples Republic of China has decided to impose some restrictions on the perambulations of the search behemoth.
According to state controlled Xinhua News Agency, the authorities have told Google to stop search services for non-Chinese web sites.
That’s a day after the government ticked off Google for making pornographic material available, but it’s not entirely clear whether yesterday’s diktat is related to today’s prohibition.
Some key words are also taboo, according to reports, but which ones apply remains unclear.
China periodically cracks down on web sites which it considers dangerous to its citizens’ sanity, as defined by some definition of sanity known only to itself.
