Chicago (IL) – Activision has confirmed plans to release three new titles in the fall of 2009: Guitar Hero 5, DJ Hero and Band Hero.
“Guitar Hero 5 features the hottest rock and roll artists today as well as classic rock bands and gives players an unprecedented level of control over the way they play the game with the ability to drop in and out of songs and change band members, instruments and difficulty levels on the fly,” the company explained in a statement.
DJ Hero is expected to expand Guitar Hero’s lineup by adding a number of musical genres including hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance. The title will also allow players to mix popular songs and tracks with a new turntable controller.
Band Hero, which features popular top 40 hits, is designed to “expand the appeal to a broad family audience who can play together on the guitar, drums, bass and microphone.”
According to Activion, the game builds upon Guitar Hero’s “easy-to-play, difficult-to-master signature gameplay” and allows novice players as well as expert fans to “join together” on their favorite songs.
As TG Daily previously reported, a number of companies have announced plans to release new musical game titles in time for the 2009 holidays. For example, Warner Bros. and TT Games have teamed up with Lego, Harmonix and MTV to create Lego Rock Band. The title will feature songs by popular artists, such as Blur (Song 2), Europe (The Final Countdown), Carl Douglas and Pink (So What).
“Rock Band is a social game experience that crosses every generation and every genre of rock,” explained Bob Picunko, Senior Vice President of Electronic Games for MTV Games. “Harmonix and MTV Games are big fans of the Lego game franchise and excited to work with TT Games to develop a new take on Rock Band that focuses on great music and Lego humor.”
Meanwhile, the upcoming Beatles version of Rock Band will reportedly offer two new ‘guitars’ to go with the $250 full-band package of the game. The Rickenbacker 325 and Gretsch Duo Jet guitars, which were played by John Lennon and George Harrison, will be sold for MSRP $99.99 in the US, MSRP €99.99 in continental Europe and MSRP £89.99 in the UK.
