This isn’t any big surprise to report, but Fifty Shades of Grey is doing very well in advance ticket sales as it gets ready for its February 13 launch. Good, bad or indifferent, the movie’s going to make a ton of money regardless, and already the money’s rolling right in.
As of last week, Grey is the fastest selling R-rated movie in Fandango’s history. Variety reports that Grey has also outsold advance ticket sales from the previous record holder, Sex and City 2. Not to mention Fifty Shades is having the biggest first week ticket sales for a movie that isn’t a sequel since the first installment of The Hunger Games.
According to a report on Latinospost, Fandango is already adding more show times to meet the demand. We’re sure it’s going to break more records from here, and as we just reported here on TG, we’re very surprised to learn that the movie got the R from the ratings board with no fuss or controversy that we know of.
Not to mention, if you love books, you should be thankful to Grey, because it’s helped keep bookstores in business, and in profit. Even if you don’t like Grey, or have any interest in reading it, it’s been making a lot of money for the book business in an era where we’ve been losing bookstores everywhere, and for that alone this writer is very grateful.
