So many fans would love for Zeppelin to reunite, so would Jimmy Page, but it just doesn’t look like it’s in the cards. The band essentially died with drummer John Bonham, and it’s impossible to imagine Zeppelin without his powerhouse drumming.
Sure Zeppelin could probably always go for the big cash grab if they wanted to totally whore out, but as Page told Rolling Stone, “Led Zeppelin wasn’t a corporate entity,” like a lot of bands today. “Led Zeppelin was an affair of the heart. Each of the members was important to the sum total of what we were. I like to think that if it had been me that wasn’t there, the others would have made the same decision. And what were we going to do? Create a role for somebody, say, ‘You have to do this, this way?’ That wouldn’t be honest.”
And indeed, especially with Zeppelin, the individual members were incredible musicians, and all together they made an incredible combination. Where a lot of drummers and bass players are considered expendable, Bonham could never be replaced. While many would want more Zeppelin, we’ll have to be satisfied with what they gave us when they were here, and they gave the world a hell of a lot.
