When David Fincher dropped out of directing the Steve Jobs biopic, it was especially unfortunate, because Christian Bale was attached to star. When we read that he was a contender to play Jobs, it felt like perfect casting to us without a doubt.
Now good news is here again, because Bale is indeed up again to play Jobs. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Bale was up for a movie called Deep Blue Goodbye, but now that that movie has hit a roadblock, he’s back on for Jobs.
Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) will be directing the long awaited biopic from a script by Aaron Sorkin. Other actors who are reputedly up to play Jobs include Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Bradley Cooper. (Leonardo DiCaprio was also up for the role, but talks broke down, as they say in the biz.)
To us, Bale is a great choice to play a mercurial, temperamental genius. He’s got the right amount of charisma and darkness to play what is not a black and white role, and we feel he’ll capture many of Jobs’s shades of gray very nicely.
