Sony’s digital paper E Ink slate priced at $1100

Sony introduced its high-end, 13-inch slate for reading and writing documents back in 2013.

The E Ink slate will reportedly be hitting US shores in May at an $1100 price point.

Known as Digital Paper, the high-resolution device boasts a high-contrast display and offers a pen for taking notes or sketching.

Additional features include a 13.3 inch, 1600 x 1200 pixel E Ink Mobius display, an optical touchscreen for finger input, an active digitizer for use with a digital pen, 2.8GB of available storage, a microSD card slot and WiFi.

The device measures approximately a quarter of an inch thick and weighs less than 13 ounces.

As Liliputing’s Brad Linder notes, US distributor Worldox isn’t positioning Digital Paper as a consumer device. Rather, the company is targeting the high-end slate at professionals in legal, higher education, government and other enterprise markets.

”Unfortunately, as The Digital Reader points out there’s one big caveat: the device only supports viewing and editing PDF files,” he explained. “There’s no support for any other formats and no support for third-party apps.”
