As we recently reported here on TGD, it was rumored that Adam Lambert would be singing for Queen, and doing a concert tour with the band. Now that has officially come to pass, and he’ll be singing with the band this summer.
As Ultimate Classic Rock tells us, Queen will launch a tour in Chicago on June 19, and it will run until July 20. As Lambert said in a statement, “I’m completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon. The thought of sharing the stage for a full set in North America is so beautifully surreal. I’m honored to be able to pay my respects to Freddie’s memory; he’s a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of these legendary band.”
When Freddie Mercury tragically passed away, the band was finally starting to have a comeback in the States, and it would have been great to see them make one more go round with the legendary singer. Queen always swore they would never tour America again unless they were on top; they had to be able to play arenas, but their audience had dwindled in the eighties stateside. (They still remained a big stadium draw in Europe.)
Now Queen guitarist Brian May says, “Let’s rock those beautiful arenas just one more time.”
