For those who remember having to suffer through Vanilla Ice when he was on top of the world, it was indeed a very traumatic time in pop culture history. We’ve tried to forget it and black it out of our memories as much as we could, but like a lot of trauma, it sometimes comes back to us in bits and flashes from time to time.
For those who didn’t have to suffer through Vanilla Ice over twenty years ago, think of how much people currently hate Justin Bieber, and magnify that by about ten or a hundred, and you’ll get the idea. His first big hit, “Ice Ice Baby” was horrible enough, but each successive hit got even worse, and it finally culminated with “Ninja Rap,” a song he did for the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
We were praying to God this song wouldn’t come back with the return of the Turtles this summer, but some chucklehead thought it would be funny to revive that sonic turd in a commercial for mac and cheese. I can’t describe it more, I can’t watch it, and doubt you’ll want to see it either, but I’m hoping they’re gonna keep this guy far away from the Ninja Turtles movie.
Michael Bay being involved with the Ninja Turtles is bad enough, but Vanilla Ice had to be unearthed as well? Don’t these Hollywood people understand the concept of insult to injury? Now Ninja Turtles has at least tow major strikes against it, please don’t try for three, okay?
