Transformers, Captain America, and The Amazing Spider-Man Have a Big Superbowl Weekend

We just reported here on TGD that the first commercial for Transformers: Age of Extinction would debut during the Superbowl, which is always a prime time for the major studios to buy ad space for their upcoming blockbusters. In fact, according to polls, Extinction was the most anticipated movie commercial for the Bowl broadcast.

This Sunday also showed the commercial for Captain America: The Winter Solider, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which should all be major genre hits this year. While the parachuting Transformer looked especially dumb, the big treat was saved for last with the Dinobots. You saw them in brief flashes, but they’re absolutely going to be in the next movie, and we’re sure it will make a real heavy metal bash when they shake, rattle and roll.

Spider-Man 2 also goes by in a flash, and you see Electro, played by Jamie Foxx, the most, along with a brief appearance by Green Goblin, as well as the Rhino, who is in a big armored suit. Just like the X-Men would have looked ridiculous in yellow spandex, Paul Giamatti probably would have looked pretty silly with a giant horn protruding out of his forehead.

Several of these trailers were very brief and didn’t give away the store, but they showed just enough to whet everyone’s appetite. We’re certainly hoping Captain America and Spider-Man will continue to get better from here, and Captain America should do especially well as part of the Avengers Universe with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson). We’re also looking forward to the big screen debut of The Falcon, who was one of the first African American superheroes. BTW, did we mention Robert Redford’s in it too?
