Okay, so we’ve been reading a lot of speculation, rumor, and hearsay everywhere about the next Star Wars movie. Now finally JJ Abrams has disclosed some official information about what’s going on in the Star Wars universe.
As you would expect, JJ’s not going to give away the store on everything, but he has confirmed that the new Star Wars screenplay he’s been polishing with Lawrence Kasdan is finished, and he has indeed been meeting with Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad) about a role in the film.

As The Wrap reports, Abrams says he’s is in “deep prep” for the next Star Wars flick. “We’re working really hard and we’ve got our script…Full steam ahead, y’know.” While Abrams did confirm he met with Plemons, as far as all the reports of this actor or that actor being up for a role, “It’s usually agents talking to people about what’s happening. It’s a lot of noise.”
In addition, Abrams was asked if he would do any of the Star Wars films in IMAX, and he said, “In the right situation I would. The problem with IMAX is it’s a very loud camera. You can’t really do intimate scenes with it. It’s slow. They break down often. Having said that, they’re working on digital versions of these and so there may be a version one day. But we’re going to be shooting this next movie on film.”
As this story was being finalized, Metro ran a report that Star Wars Episode VII will start shooting in May of this year. There’s no official confirmation on this yet, although Abrams has said, “That’s the current plan,” and the film is slated to hit theaters December 18, 2015.
