Marvel has launched “phase two” of their superhero movie series, which will culminate in 2015 with The Avengers: Age of Ultron. One movie that’s been in the works for some time has been Ant-Man, which will be directed by Edgar Wright.
It’s been rumored for quite some time that Paul Rudd would be playing the lead, and now it is indeed official that he will be playing the title role of Ant-Man, whose every day persona is Henry Pym. Pym is a scientist who learns the way to shrink himself down, and as Yoda once said, “Size matters not.”
While Variety has written that Rudd could be “an interesting choice” to play a superhero, years ago he was rumored to be up for the role of the Man of Steel in an early incarnation of Batman Vs Superman. Rudd later said he was never seriously considered for the role, nor was he seriously considering playing it either, but he definitely could have pulled off the Clark Kent vibe, and it could also work in his favor for Ant-Man.
And let’s face it, we can’t always take superhero films too seriously. With Rudd and Wright, Ant-Man should have a healthy sense of humor that should serve the movie very well. Ant-Man is currently scheduled for a July 31, 2015 release, and we’re very curious to see what Wright and Rudd will pull off together.
