We understand that Warner Brothers wants to keep the Batman and Harry Potter franchises going as long as they can, but what about Wonder Woman? A potential Wonder Woman movie’s been in the works for decades now, and at one point Joss Whedon was going to direct. There was also the announcement of Amazon, an origin story TV series, but there hasn’t been any news on that lately.
Now rumors are going around Wonder Woman could make an appearance in Batman Vs Superman, which doesn’t sound like a smart idea frankly. Variety asked Warner Executive Greg Silverman if the movie would introduce characters from Justice League. His response?
“We have been doing a lot of thinking for years about how to best use all those characters. Wonder Woman is an amazing character. I think it’s a great opportunity both for box office success, but also to have an amazingly powerful female superhero.
“We are taking it all very seriously and are trying to do a plan that’s respectful to those characters and maximizes the stores as best they can. So everything that has been speculated are things that we’ve thought about.”
Which is a nice way of saying nothing at all. We all know that on the net a silly rumor can gain a lot of traction quickly, and we don’t think trying to cram too many superheroes into one movie would be too smart, unless it indeed would be for something like Justice League, or Superfriends for that matter…
As far as the Ben Affleck backlash, Silverman said, “We knew going in that we had more information than the general public had. We knew what the take of the movie was, what the character was going to be. We don’t take these decisions lightly. We thought about everybody – brand new people, established people. Ben is the perfect guy to play this role. They’ve crafted a great story that involves these amazing characters.”
